P. caerulea is a vigorous, large, semi-evergreen to evergreen climber with twining tendrils. Leaves dark green, with 5-7 finger-like lobes. Summer flowers to 8cm in width, are white, with blue and purple coronal filaments followed by ovoid orange fruits 4cm long.
