Viburnums are grown for ornamental flowers, fragrance, autumn colour and clusters of bright berries, varying in colour from blue, red or black. Growing several in the same area will encourage a good display of berries.
Viburnum davidii bears flat, white flower heads in May, followed by metallic berries (on female plants), which complement its striking dark green, veined leaves. It’s a compact, evergreen shrub and forms a low dome, making an attractive ground cover plant for the front of the border or beneath taller shrubs, in sun or partial shade. An evergreen viburnum, Viburnum davidii looks good all year round.
The variety ‘Angustifolium’ is particularly attractive, bearing fragrant white flower heads, followed by metallic blue berries. Grow it in full sun to partial shade. There’s little need to prune, simply cut back stems to retain its neat dome shape.
