Berberis x media Red Jewel is a compact shrub with glossy attractive shiny leaves. Its prized for its spectacular semi evergreen foliage, reddish in spring, turning to bright red to purple in autumn and insignificant pale yellow flowers in spring. This variety of barberry needs much less pruning than other varieties.

Red Jewel grows in almost any soil except waterlogged soil. Place in a sunny position as it will encourage fruiting and spectacular autumn colour although it will tolerate partial shade. This slow-growing shrub can take years to reach its full height.
