Daisy-like cosmos flowers are easy-to-grow and versatile annuals. They can be used to plug gaps in borders, grown as a feature in their own right or as part of a container display. The flowers attract a variety of bees, butterflies and hoverflies, and also make a good cut flower.
Cosmos bipinnatus ‘Xanthos’ is a compact variety with banana-yellow flowers and that signature dissected cosmos foliage. Lovely as part of a border or growing in pots and containers where it’ll provide masses of flowers from midsummer to the first frosts.
For best results, grow Cosmos bipinnatus ‘Xanthos’ in in moist but well-drained soil, in full sun. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage repeat-flowering. Be sure to pinch out young plants to encourage bushy growth and more flowers.
