Plants dislike constant buffeting by winds so site in a sheltered spot out of the prevailing wind. Tree ferns may be grown in containers, outdoors or in a large greenhouse or conservatory. They need bright, filtered light and moderate humidity, and should be planted in loam-based ericaceous compost, adding about 20 percent peat-free potting media for additional humus.
